  I note that this compilation reports that the marriage took place inChatham County, North Carolina, while I have found several genealogiesthat report the place of marriage as Surry County, North Carolina.
  
  Some genealogies report that Abraham, as most or all of his brothers,had the middle name Brissell in honor of his mother's previous name.This naming of the sons would usually indicate that this name is themaiden name of the mother.  Sources indicate, however, that the maidenname was Williams, and Brissell a later name, though I have found norecord of a marriage to anyone named Brissell.  But several recordsreport her parents were surnamed Williams.
  
  Most genealogies name this person only Abraham Horton, but one or twohave the middle name Brissell.  One, however, reports specifically onthis middle name, citing a book on the Hortons.  This source statesthat Abe and Martha named (only) their first four sons Brissell.

  The Virkus Compendium states that Abraham and Martha gave their firstfour sons the middle name of "Brissell" in order that the name wouldbe perpetuated.
