Notes

  • Sources available to Linda Hanks indicate that Daniel was also calledDavid or Dave.  It is likely his full name was Daniel David.  The 1850census in Gilmer County, Georgia has an entry that can be read bothways.  It appears that the name was originally written as David, thenan N was written over the V, and the loop of the D, which was a littleopen, was left as it was, looking somewhat like el.  Ancestry.comtranscribes his name in 1850 as David.  I first read it as Daniel, butsee that it could be David.  One of his brothers, Jackson Green, nameda son Daniel David also.

Green family tradition in Oklahoma reports that Dan (Daniel) marriedan Indian woman.  But no one had any further details on place ortribe.  In October 2007 I found a genealogy with information on whatappeared to be our Daniel David Green, married to Frances Colbert. They lived in Love County, Oklahoma, where other members of theGreen-Jackson families lived, and Daniel Green is listed in the burialinformation for Lakeview Cemetery, Love County, Oklahoma.  Thegenealogy gives no commentary of information about Frances' familyethnicity.  Her parents are not listed.  I later found some furtherinformation from what appeared to be a later version of the Shermangenealogy, though anonymous.

Daniel married Frances on 8 October 1871, according to the Shermangenealogy.  He died in 1878, so we will not have any censusdocumentation of their marriage or family.  Frances went by Fannie.Chickasaw History reports this date.  This entry is found underFrances' record.

"She married Daniel Green in Berwyn, Pickens Co., Chick Nation, IT, 8OCT 1871.(1702) (Daniel Green is #26909.) Daniel was born circa1848.(1703) Daniel died before 1879. Marriage records show his name as"David" but Dawes records for his son give it as 'Daniel'."
    --  Chickasaw History, Francis Colbert,http://www.chickasawhistory.com/colbert/i0026899.htm#i29612b

In the 7 years of their marriage, they had three children that arerecorded by Sherman.  There was one girl named Minnie Lee Green, andtwo boys.  Another genealogy of the family records only Minnie Lee.  Ilater found a 1900 census record for Fannie as a widow with two of herchildren, reporting them all as Choctaw Indians, living in ChickasawNation.  Her son living next door to them is also reported as Choctaw. This is probably due to their original registration in Choctaw Nationwhere they living at the time of the first Indian roll registration.(See Notes for Frances Colbert.)

The names of the boys are unusual, and the two sons have names thatare forms of the same name:  Reddick "Redie" Green and Daniel RedricGreen.  The second son's middle name Redric looks like a variation ofthe first name of the first son's name Reddick.  In May 2008 I found a1900 census record for Reddick J Green, of an age matching the oldestson.  This census reported Reddick, his wife Etta and their twochildren as White.

I could not find any census record confirming the existence of thechild reported in the genealogy as Daniel Redric.  The name Redriclooked like an error or a variation for Reddick, his older brother'sname.  I have found no documentation of a middle name of Redric thatsome of the genealogies have.  But in 1900 he is in his widowedmother's household as Dan Green.  In September 2010, I found somecensus entries that appeared to match this reported child Daniel.  The1910 and 1930 censuses report him, however, as Daniel G.

The Chickasaw History reports the second son as simply Daniel:
"Daniel Green (#26910) was born in IT circa 1874. Daniel enrolled inMarietta, Pickens Co., Chickasaw Nation, IT for the Dawes ChickasawRoll on 3 OCT 1898 and appears on Dawes card number 1615.(1716)"
    --  Chickasaw History, Francis Colbert,http://www.chickasawhistory.com/colbert/i0026899.htm#i26899

Daniel was Fannie's second husband.  Her first husband, Samuel HunterCochran, who died at an unknown time before Fannie's marriage to Danin 1871.  She also had a third husband, Charles Adams, who diedsometime before 1888, when she married her fourth husband, TheophilusH East.  The Colbert family genealogy I found with all this greatinformation reported that Theophilus and Fannie died the same year,1910.  But this can't be right, since I found the 1900 census recordfor 1900 showing her as a widow named Francis East.  So perhapsTheophilus died in 1900 (before the census) instead of 1910.
